Tools to thrive in sport, school, and life
I’m Valerie, the founder of Quiet Confidence. I played international competitive golf for Scotland and the state of Florida. I studied at the University of Stirling as a member of their prestigious Golf Bursary Program. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and an MSc in Sport and Exercise Science (Medical Science), combining academic expertise with playing experience.
I’ve also lived and worked internationally, spending 22 years in the USA where I coached young athletes from around the world in sport psychology.
I'm very proud to serve on the Golf Development Committee of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews where we help affiliates develop the game of golf around the world. I also mentor students that are recipients of the Club's Scholarship.
My mission is simple: to help youngsters in sport build lasting confidence, focus, and calm — on the playing field, in competition, and in life. Quiet Confidence brings together my background in golf, psychology, and brain training (EEG) with fun tools like journaling and one to one conversations that make confidence practical and personal.
I know what it feels like to be nervous before a big match — and the joy of finding your “quiet confidence.” That’s why I created this program: to give athletes the tools I wish I had at their age.
When I’m not coaching psychology or playing on the golf course, you’ll usually find me walking by the sea with my dog Mashie (pictured alongside) 🐾, or dreaming up new frog-inspired ways to help athletes hop forward.

Quiet Confidence is a program that combines journaling, brain training with EEG (neurofeedback), and coaching to help young athletes build focus, calm, and lasting self-belief. It’s designed especially for sport, but the skills apply to school and everyday life too.
The program is for girls and boys aged 10–18 who play sport at any level — from beginners to competitive athletes.
EEG simply measures brain activity — it’s like a fitness tracker for the mind. Neurofeedback uses games and activities to help athletes practice staying calm and focused. It’s completely safe, non-invasive, and widely used in sport and education worldwide.
Yes. Quiet Confidence started in golf but is now open to girls and boys in all sports — hockey, football, swimming, rowing, athletics, and more. The skills of focus, calmness, and confidence transfer across every sport.
We encourage parents to support the journaling process at home. You’ll also get updates, guidance, and tips to help your athlete apply what they are learning.
The core program runs for 3 months. Athletes and their parents have the option to extend to 6 months.
Journaling and coaching can be done from anywhere. Neurofeedback sessions are offered online and in select in-person events.
